Sampoornesh Babu‘s latest film released to packed theatres on Friday . Directed by SR Krishna, Virus is a comedy-action flick that deals with the issue of social media’s influence in our lives and how it helps the film’s protagonist to solve a murder mystery. The film has Sampoornesh Babu, Geeta Shah, Nidisha and Chammak Chandra in pivotal roles.
Kittu (Sampoornesh Babu) plays a cable guy who lives in the penthouse of an apartment building. For some of the residents Kittu is a nightmare as he knows about their illicit relationships and extorts money from them to keep things under wraps. Kittu’s modus operandi is to secretly install CCTV cameras inside apartments for his daily dose of gossip and eventually gets to earn from it. However, he is not all that evil as in one of the scenes he saves a girl in the building from committing suicide. But, things take an ugly turn when Kittu gets convicted for the murder of Raghava Reddy, one of the residents of the building.
The first half raises the curiosity quotient of the audience and compels them to ask, “did Kittu really killed Raghava?” Kittu’s love interest Gita Shah too is introduced in the first half. Sampoornesh manages to entertain his fans with his trademark dances and assertive dialogue delivery. Though most of the comic elements fell flat during the first half, it were the punchy dialogues that garnered appreciation from the audience.
On the whole, Virus is a disappointing film from Sampoornesh Babu. Even though the story idea is good, the narration is quite flat and boring. All those who have a lot of time and like Sampoo’s kind of fun, they can try this film out. But the rest can stay away from this film and explore better options this weekend.
